Class 10/17 ENGL 1301/1320

  • We will not be having class 10/17
  • Read Stage 4 writing stage
  • Drop off your final draft of your stage 3 writing assignment in my box in the ARHU building (English Dept. 2nd Floor)

I want everyone to start thinking about a theory of reading and writing.  This might be the most difficult thing you will have to do this semester so I am allowing you some time to think and investigate this on your own.  I want you to start gathering information about questions you have (see stage 4).  This will be geared at an introspective and personal idea/theory about reading and writing that you will generate through research.

Assignment:

  • Post a half page abstract by Friday 10/18 on this blog. (2 citations required)
  • Tell me what your thinking about writing about, start generating a theory you would like to examine
  • I will not be giving you writing prompts for this assignment, as this will solely be up to you.
  • Please post on the blog if you have any questions

I want everyone to start thinking about a reading/writing project for yourself.  We are moving on to stage 3 of the writing program so please make sure to read stage 3 in the reading links.

This week's objective is to find effective ways to understand difficult readings (scholarly articles) by providing notes, and highlighting important areas in the articles.  I want to see your notes and the process by which you are attempting to understand the reading.

Not only will you provide an oratorical response to the article, but I want you to show the class YOUR process for note taking.

Assignment:
Read Stage 3
Print and Read Kantz article
Bring notes and Present in class.
